Money from the recently announced federal Women in Stem and Entrepreneurship grant will see Street Science partnering with Science Education Group Australia to take their award winning science engagement program to more schools than ever before.
Funding from the Federal Government’s Women in Stem and Entrepreneurship (WISE) grant has been announced, with over $15 million dollars being distributed to projects across Australia. The WISE Fund has an aim to support more women in STEM careers and to encourage girls to study STEM subjects regardless of their economic or cultural background.
As part of this funding $1million dollars has been given to Science Education Group Australia who are partnering with Street Science to take the award-winning Street Science program to schools across Qld, NT and regional NSW.
The highly successful Street Science program has been running across South East Queensland since 2012, and has already engaged over 1 million students. Aimed at students from prep/foundation right through to high school years, the Street Science program features highly engaging awe inspiring science shows and curriculum-linked hands-on workshops and classroom learning kits, all designed to get children excited and interested in science.
Steve Liddell Founder of Street Science knows first-hand the importance of engaging students in science; as an ex-science and math teacher he understands the challenges that teachers face getting their students excited about science.
‘Studies have shown if you can engage students at a young age and really get them excited and interested in science, they are more likely to pursue science subjects and science career paths as they get older. We can’t wait to get our program out to these regions and beyond and inspire the next round of scientists and science communicators!’ Steve Liddell said.
The Sista program is currently rolling out around South East Queensland and will be expanding into regional Qld, NT and NSW in late 2023 through to 2025. To find out more about the program and how your school can be involved contact Street Science directly.
“You guys are consistently fantastic. The kids had a ball and we’ve had lovely messages from parents too as the students went home and talked about the session.”

“After seeing your show a student told me on the playground duty that they want to be scientists when they grow up. Thank you so much!” Year 1 teachers St Peters Catholic Primary.
