Join Mel from Street Science at the Open Day for Springwood Kids ELC, shows at 10am & 12pm
Junior scientists, under the direction of the Street Science team, get hands on as they observe the difference between living and nonliving specimens. Participants get to use the latest digital microscopes to capture images of their discoveries. Ideal for children aged 8-11 years.
Street Science will be at Sunnybank Plaza these school holidays to make Green & Gold Glitter Slime. Drop in Lab wil be running from 11am to 2pm daily from Tuesday 15th to Saturday 19th January. We hope to see you there!
Junior scientists, along with the Street Science team, use ‘snap together’ circuits to build a variety of electrical circuits including an FM radio, connect bulbs in series and parallel, investigate insulators and conductors and wire batteries. Ideal for children aged 8-11 years.

Covering everything from bodily functions to DNA and plant physiology, this live broadcast is sure to keep the whole family entertained. Be mesmerized by our clouds, amazed by our fire tornados and roll on the floor laughing while you learn how biology can really grow on you.
Things are sure to get explosive as the Street Science team explore BIOFUELS in this not to be missed LIVE school holiday broadcast. Learn about what fuels are and what kind of fuels will be used in the future. With intense colour changes, instant clouds, and a real rocket engine, this live broadcast is sure to captivate junior scientists of all ages!
Join the fun over the school holidays – even from home! Our Kids Go Wild program is filled with a range of fun activities that encourage kids to get involved in our local environment and learn about ways to become more sustainable. All activities are FREE but bookings are essential.
Do you normally throw away your fruit and vegetable scraps? Why not learn how to make the most of your scraps by growing new plants.
Join us for this live session and discover some fantastic propagation techniques which will have you growing your own plants in no time at all!
This workshop will see children complete a guided hands-on investigation, expanding their knowledge of processed materials. Kids will mix various chemicals to produce a number of amazing polymer worms! Most suited for children aged 5-12 years.
Workshops will be split into 45 minute sessions running at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am and 12:00pm. You can choose which session you would like to attend when you register above. All sessions for this workshop will be held in the Amphitheatre. You can view a map for Roma Street Parkland HERE
Registration is required to attend. Please note if you are running more than 20 minutes late for your session your spot may be reallocated.
COVID information
Please note that to ensure public safety, several COVID-Safe measures will be in place during Kids Collective. These measures are per the Queensland Government’s COVID-Safe Events Framework and Checklist and also include a required registration process, safeguarding the ability to contact trace if required and manage crowd numbers.
In addition, a number of proactive methods have been implemented to ensure patron well-being across the Kids Collective program, including:
- On- ground hygiene stations, with regular use encouraged
- Imposed social distancing of 4 square metres per person
- Thorough cleaning of all equipment, pre and post use
- Daily touch-point cleaning of all toilet blocks and parent’s rooms, plus intensifying night-cleaning of all toilets
When visiting the Parkland, please make sure you observe the guidelines set out by Queensland Health and do not attend the Parkland if any of the below are applicable:
- You or your child are displaying COVID-19 symptoms- these include a cough, fever, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath, and feeling unwell
- You or your child tested positive for COVID-19 or are awaiting results
- You or your child have travelled overseas to a declared COVID-19 hotspot in the previous 14 days
Per Queensland Government guidelines, Roma Street Parkland staff retain the right to refuse patrons from the event if they are displaying COVID-like symptoms. If you or your child begin to feel unwell at Kids Collective please speak to on-ground event staff/ inform staff and leave immediately.

STEAM Hackers is the brainchild of two Australian award winning businesses – Street Science and Junior Engineers.
STEAM Hackers was created to provide kids with the full STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) experience with our team of highly engaging educators that have presented globally.
We have 3 sessions per day on the Monday and Tuesday, Including Forces and Flight and Coding through gamification as well as Firework Science and Minecraft Hackers! These are programs are suitable for kids aged 8-13 years old. The only thing you need to bring for the workshops is a mouse. Sessions run for 2 hours, parents may drop off and pick up, please note there is no supervision after the classes have finished as we are teaching new sessions.
